Responsible Innovation Labs (RIL) applauds the Biden Administration for today’s executive order outlining guidance, resources, and funding for safe, secure, and trustworthy AI technologies. This executive order builds on thoughtful collaboration with stakeholders and focuses on the federal government’s role in bolstering the country’s leadership in AI.

The next step will be turning these guidelines into action for startups who will be at the forefront of AI innovation. We are focused on providing protocols that are accessible, clear, and actionable; ensuring AI startups and researchers can benefit from federal funding and grants; and helping startups serving government customers adhere to federal guidelines. RIL’s coalition is led by innovators with experience deploying AI at scale. We are actively working with venture funds, startups, policymakers, civil society, and academics to formulate the most effective governance and operational approaches to drive AI innovation forward through trust, transparency, and regular testing. The startup ecosystem can thrive with the benefit of industry-led standards adapted from best practices, relevant research, and alignment with emerging policy frameworks.

As the federal government moves to prioritize the safety and reliability of AI systems, we, too, remain committed to developing resources that promote responsible AI innovation, competition, and growth.
